Nutritional education
The aim of this line is to design and implement nutritional education activities and services to change people’s eating habits and get professionals from different sectors involved, adopting a comprehensive, collaborative and decentralised approach in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
We promote an organisational model of collaboration in educational interventions at different levels of education and sectors in the region, such as the social sector (e.g. in community centres and schools) and the health sector (e.g. primary care centres and hospitals), among others.
INNOVATION PROGRAMME
Networked education for better eating habits
The Innovation Team brings together organisations from different sectors to design and implement activities and services to accompany people in their individualised and personalised process of changing their habits. It makes sure to take into account different environmental and individual factors (e.g. attitudes, beliefs, motivations, opportunities and barriers to change).
The programme is implemented in coordination with the other programmes to ensure all the changes to participants’ food environment occur at the same time. Programmes are given in three forms: in-person, blended and online.
What makes us different from other nutritional education programmes?
- Co-created with a diversity of organisations from the education and food sectors through an innovative process that stresses multi-sector and multidisciplinary actions to achieve behavioural change. The course is inspired by system thinking and system innovation methodologies, which we have combined with behavioural change methodologies.
- Designed to facilitate collaboration and volunteer work among university students, researchers, the public, staff in cultural associations, health professionals, restaurateurs and shopkeepers, among others.
- Facilitated by educators with knowledge on food and, in certain programme modes, also for people who have successfully passed the in-person courses.
- Aligned with the general recommendations in the nutrition guides of the Government of Catalonia and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN).
Forms of participation
This mode includes different topic-based modules using participatory methodologies that promote enquiry and mutual learning among all participants. The course accompanies participants in a reflective, shared and personalised process of changing habits.
Once you have completed the process, you can continue learning in another of the programme modes and, if you wish, become a member of the network and volunteer to carry out food-related activities.
This mode is being provided in:
- Primary care centres (CAPs).
- Schools (aimed at parents).
- Hospitals (for in-patients and during discharge through other modes).
